To J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter was a very influential book in my childhood. Something about being whisked off from a terrible situation into a haven of magic and learning was marvelous to me in elementary and middle school. I felt so connected to the story and characters- I remember being able to sit down and blow through a 500-page book in one day, just because Harry Potter was so amazing. With my 12th-grade reading level in elementary school, Hermione was one of the most inspiring characters for me- Headstrong, smart, and unapologetically good at school. I wanted nothing more than to get a letter on my birthday that read: “you’re secretly a witch, come to Hogwarts”. But between my treasured childhood book series and supporting my friends, I chose my friends, completely....

Dear Anti-Vaxxers, It would seem a formal introduction is in order between you and I. For one, others who are adamant supporters of vaccination have often painted you in a negative light, ultimately raising questions regarding your character, intelligence, and integrity. An apology is certainly in order. The problem stems not from those such as yourself, but from the proliferation of false information and subsequent manipulation of those trying to do the best for their families and friends. Access to quality information is often taken for granted and it is human nature to want immediate access to answers that will support our previously held beliefs. Information is power. When we have the right information, we have the capacity to make changes in the way we view health and make...

Dear United Nations, Ever since high school I have seen the impact your organization has made worldwide. I once was a “mock delegate” in Model United Nations and discussed these real world problems with others. The United Nations is clearly making a difference in the world. This is displayed through all of your published websites and thousands of resolutions. You have even created sub organizations from the World Health Organization to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. I never took the time to think about the effectiveness of all the organizations and resolutions until I was given the assignment to look deeper into something I knew about. I decided I wanted to find a way to understand and possibly measure the effectiveness of the United Nations. I was interested in...

Dear Mr President, I hope this finds you in good health. On behalf of Department of Correctional Services Learnership Group 1 of 2018/2019 and Group 1 of 2019/2020, I am writing this open letter to you today to ask for your assistance in a matter that I feel is of utmost importance. Mr President, in 2017 the department of correctional services advertised learnership posts. Thousands of people applied for the posts, as per usual some were shortlisted and some were not (I was not). However, those who were shortlisted and interviewed never went to college for training, people waited and waited and waited and they subsequently moved on. Some were employed by other departments and some by private companies. Apparently, the posts were frozen due to corruption and nepotism. In 2018 no...

I am writing to you with a heavy heart. For I have seen the decline of the American way. America use to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. No longer. It is now the land of the lairs and delusional maniac's. It is a country of everything for me and nothing for you. And money is the only prize. No matter how you get it. There is no pride in an honest days work anymore. Or in making a product the is built to last at a fair price. We let rich and so called powerful people make decisions for us, but all they care about is keeping us poor and making themselves richer. It is easy for someone making 6 figures in salary and who get all expenses paid to claim raising minimum wage would hurt the economy. They also pay the least amount of taxes because they support the law makers and...

Dear king, It has been a few years now since you’ve asked: “ where are the riches of this country ?” In your speech of July 2014. Like many Moroccans, I have long waited for an official, convincing answer from any representative of power and it has been a vain waiting. Therefore I am compelled to attempt an answer, using careful observations guided by common sense. Could it be that a system based upon the privilege and comfort of one person is unable to ensure a fair distribution of the riches it generates? A system inaccurately named - a constitutional monarchy- while the reality is that an oligarchy rules the country, a totalitarian elite operates under the disguise of a democratic framework. Dear King, you occupy the highest position in this system, you have the...

Dear Esteemed Pastor Agu, Calvary greetings, grace, and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father to whom be glory forever and ever. I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers. I have taken the unusual step of writing this open letter because my conscience has left me with no choice. I trust you will read it with an open mind. Be rest assured that I write this letter in love, and please don't construe it as the ranting of one of those negative critics who always have something wrong to say about men and women of God. If anything in this letter overstates the truth and indicates an unreasonable impatience, I...

To the readers of this message, I am writing this open letter with the hopes of possibly saving my fathers life and sanity, along with dozens of other men who are currently in the same situation as him. He is presently being held in the Montreal detention center commonly known as Bordeaux. He began his internment right around the height of the pandemic, and is serving a sentence for a non-violent crime. During his time throughout the sentence, he, along with the countless other inmates have been the subject of disgustingly cruel and harsh discriminatory measures throughout the Covid-19 crisis, many of which have already been made famous by the mainstream media, including articles from CTV News coverage of ongoing hunger strikes, APTN News covering the mistreatment of BIPOC members...

To Ms. Robison, I remember one of the last times you would ever instruct us in person. You sat us down and told us how sheltered and unknowing we were and that we wouldn’t realize this until we left the “Cupertino bubble.” You told us that we lacked empathy and that we only cared about classes such as “AP Biology” or “AP Calculus BC” even though they would be entirely irrelevant in adulthood. You commanded us to think, to really think–not just memorize SAT words and regurgitate them onto paper. At the time, I didn’t think much about your words. I continued to think only for my own interest, I continued to study for “important” classes and mentally ditch the “unimportant” ones, and I continued to stay sheltered. However, as time went on, I became more and more exposed to people...
