Education

When you walked into the house last night from practice, I listened as you shared how frustrated you were about playing time. You explained how hard you are working, how much time you put in over the summer, and how the coach barely notices you in practice and in games. I wanted to make it better. I wanted to fix it. But it would be a short term fix to a long term problem. I have read countless open letters from athletes to their coaches who didn’t believe in them, coaches who pushed too hard or didn’t push hard enough. Athletes upset because they didn’t get the playing time or the recognition they deserved. Kids who quit, blaming their coach. I’ve met parents who were angry because their children were not treated fairly or believed the coach didn’t like their kids. Parents who...

It is detriment to the educational system as a whole to force upon one such Kevin Yancey a position that he does not desire to take. Indeed, to force one into any position that is not of their choosing is not in keeping with the foundation of this country, nor of any who knows freedom. It is the forced will of an owner of property to place that property into a position not of its choosing. Such an act of the directors or board members does not bear them any sense of kinship or familiarity among those they attempt to subjugate. Instead it but breeds only discord and contempt. The will of over 300 of your fine students displayed this contempt that was born of your ill-fated and wrongfully-achieved decision. Their actions alone show to you the great influence, the respect, that Kevin Yancey...

Dear Professor Upton, We are writing to you regarding the recent announcement of Professor Philip Thickett, Head of Birmingham School of Media' dismissal. Students at the university are shocked and saddened by this announcement. Professor Thickett is a man who all students love and adore and one who is very approachable and kind hearted in ensuring that students have the best experience possible. He has been surpportive and helpful to so many different students, this can be seen across so many different opinions of student in the school of media. We can not stress enough how important Philip is to the school and what dismissing him would mean to so many students. We would also point out that Professor Thickett is someone who loves this institution and has dedicated all of his...

An Open Letter To The Office Of The President RE: The On-Campus Visit of Richard Spencer To Whom It May Concern, I hope this letter reaches you in good spirits and in a swift, timely manner. I intend for this message to be made public because I feel there may be many others who agree with my thoughts. This letter is intended to be an open yet respectful form of constructive criticism in regards to how Richard Spencer's visit to our campus was handled. Humans are flawed and it should be no surprise to anyone that I possess several flaws myself, yet I believe this subject requires a form of open dialogue between both the students of Texas A...

Over 3,000 China job agents and recruiters post over 500 new job ads on the internet every week in hopes of reeling in some prized "fish" to fill teaching positions in 32 provinces throughout China. Some of these recruiters are actually licensed and honest enough to use their real names. 90% are not. It is debatable whether the jobs they are finally offered to prospects match those in the exotic "work abroad" ads found at Gumtree, Craigslist, ESLCafe and elsewhere. Some advertised jobs are not at all what they seem (See http://chinascamwatch.wordpress.com) But worst of all, 99% of these black agents will never ever tell you about the real health risks posed by China especially if you suffer from asthma. After all, if they told you the winter air of Beijing and Shanghai is so badly...

Dear Dr. Stellar, This letter comes to you by my hands but on behalf of a coalition of University at Albany, Saint Rose University, New York state employees, and other local citizens, taxpayers, and stakeholders for the purpose of officially informing you of our concerns regarding the recent treatment of three female students of UAlbany following their report of being targeted, provoked, and physically assaulted on the night of January 31, 2016. You and much of the country now know these young women by their names; Asha Burwell, Ariele Agudio, and Alexis Briggs. Since this night, details have emerged to indicate that the three women were inexplicably and unjustly subjected to the following treatment: (1) Racial profiling and illegal questioning by members of University Police...

At what age does it become apparent to children how vital education is in this world? As a high school student in America, I have noticed in every single one of my classes of every school day, kids who think it’s okay to talk, goof off, ignore their teachers and act like hooligans. The mindset of American teens often seems to be geared towards the present rather than the big picture- their futures. Being disruptive, disrespectful and obnoxious in class, hinders a teen’s ability to do well in school. If a student can't apply themselves enough to control their behavior and act right in school, they will be faced with many obstacles later in life due to their adolescent arrogance and being naive. A kid who believes behavior like that is okay doesn't understand how to show...

An Open Letter To The Administrators About How Unnecessary Standardized Testing Is Dear District Administrators, For over fifty years students have been wasting their valuable time in the classroom. From weeks of preparation to the unfairness of the standardized test results towards teachers, something needs to be changed. You have been placing a burden on students and teachers for long enough, and it is time to put it to an end. To understand this debate, people must understand the intended purpose for standardized testing, which was to gather feedback on students in a consistent way in comparison to other students and schools. This has changed drastically. Years ago, standardized tests were used to place students in their classes or to decide which students needed...

The story I am going to write is true but I am going to write it anonymously because I am not brave enough to handle the consequences. There is a lady who is 56 years old and differently able; goes to a kind of remote village to teach in a government school which has no direct connectivity from her home; though she can be easily transferred to the nearest school but thanks to the inefficiency, corruption and politics her plea was rejected several times over last one decade. She can't help but to be late, which is wrong. But this has given reasons to few people to blackmail and threaten the lady. She has to face the village people and explain everyday why she is late, alright! she explains because she knows she was late which is wrong. She refuses to give few bags of grain from mid-day...
