If could reach Nicky Hayden or his family right now, I’d like to tell them a small story about 16-year-old me. When I was 15 I knew nothing about Moto GP or Nicky Hayden. I was an annoying teenager trying to pass maths and look prettier. Then I was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin Lymphoma. The cancer had also eaten part of my D5 disk in such a way that the smallest pressure could break it completely and leave me in a wheelchair for life. We all know how devastating cancer is, we all know a story or two, and this one is obviously a happy one for I am writing this letter in perfect health. As I said I knew nothing about motorbikes, I still don’t, but I had to spend an awful lot of time in bed because of my disk so I came across the start of the Moto GP Championship. They were...

Dear Wayne, I am writing this letter really just to say a massive thank you for being an amazing servant to my football club and country over a number of years and to highlight my huge connection to your journey with us and let you know how much what you have done has meant to me. To set the scene I was born into an avid Manchester United supporting family and if I was going to be interested in football there was no way I’d support anybody else. I’m told I “waved a flag” at the age of 2 during the 1999 thrilling Champions League final, though I can’t quite remember it unfortunately, but in 2004 aged 7 I began to be interested in football. After seeing United lift the 2003/4 FA Cup I was hooked and I suddenly became aware of football and started learning about it. That was the year...

Dear Mr. Sheppard: Here at Samueli Academy, we have a collection of talents with the skill, but most of them lack the will. The will to show up to practice in preparation for upcoming games that will eventually determine if we qualify for CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) playoffs and give our school national recognition for sports, in particular, the Boys Varsity Soccer team. As the goalkeeper for the founding Boys Varsity Soccer team, I am here to provide a valuable insight on the team’s seasons so that we can replenish the team for next season and also serve as great advice for new generations of athletes who plan on forming part of the soccer team in the future. To begin with, the team had to recreate itself after our first coach, Coach Beltran, decided to follow his...

Hey haters, Ever since LeBron James started his career you have been saying that he is not the greatest player: he is a flopper, he has a bad play style, and boring player to watch. And you might think that I am making this up but according to an article called “Why some people still hate LeBron James” state's specific things that haters say like Mathew Kitchen not liking his bulldozing style of play. But I am here to tell you that you guys are wrong and i'm going to prove to you haters that he is currently the best player in the league. It all started in high school, around the end of his sophomore year, when he received coverage that no other high school has ever received. His games were televised by ESPN and he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated which is really impressive for...

Dear Dean Spanos, Congratulations. You've done it. You've done the impossible. You've beat out Eli Manning as the most hated man in San Diego. You know, the guy who refused to come play for the Chargers in San Diego? Yeah? You're worse. You didn't used to have the "most hated man in San Diego" title, but after moving the Chargers to Los Angeles without any notice, you've definitely earned it. After only addressing the fans through a short letter, you've most definitely earned it. I’m sure you already know why every human in the city of San Diego hates you, but if not, here’s why: A letter. A measly five paragraph letter. 56 years. 56 years building a team, a community and a fan base in San Diego and you address the move to Los Angeles through a letter. You decided that you couldn’t even...

Dear Lebron James the reason i'm writing to you because you are my inspiration and i like the way you say to all of your haters are things like i'm the best player in the world and nobody can change that. The real reason i’m saying this is because that you are truly my favorite player in the Nba and i respect you as an Athlete and a person. The only reason why people hate on you is because people just hate on athletes just because they are people in a sport that they can't play or they don't like Players attitudes towards the team or other players. See this is why i like you as an athlete you don't really care for anybodys opinion on anything or anyone that's like my attitude towards people at this school i don't really care for anybody except friends and family just like you. I Just...

Dear Damian Lillard, This letter is from a really big fan who witness you drop 51 ppg against the kings of the regular season… the golden state warriors last year. I witnessed your elusive first career triple-double against the utah jazz with 21 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. I was distraught when you didn’t even make the all-star team You’re so underrated its not even funny. You won rookie of the year in the 2012-2013 season. You’re the player to participate in every all-star weekend event in history. Even though you didn’t win any of them, you’re the only player in nba history to do that!!! You averaged 25.1 ppg, 6.8 apg, and 4.0 rpg in the 2015-2016 season. 21.4 ppg, 6.3 apg, 3.3 rpg career wise. You’re one of the top players scoring wise in the nba. You even got the...

Dear, Derrick Rose I remember growing up hearing “Derrick Rose is going to be great” and “Derrick Rose is the next big thing.” I remember all my friends wanting to shoot threes and all I wanted to drive into the lane and lay it up because that's what you did. I pictured stepping on that Chicago Bulls floor playing alongside you. Assisting you all game long, then hitting a buzzer beater three to win the game. It’s been eight years since you were drafted and I still see how you influenced my game. Though even if it was prioritising watching you play it would be hard because of all your injuries. But those injuries weren't your fault, you were just a victim to the sad fact that a few injuries can tear apart a sports career no matter how good you are. I remember when I found out you...

Dear Kevin Durant Congratulations, you have made the weakest move by any NBA allstar ever. During free agency you decided to sign with the Golden State Warriors. You decided to choose Oakland over Boston and many other teams just throwing their money at you. Not only was this the team that smacked you upside your oddly shaped head but this is a team that went 73-9 that's the best record any team has ever had in NBA history! They didn’t even need you, how did they even have the money to afford your contract?! You could have stayed in Oklahoma and won a ring, don’t even act like the Thunder wasn’t a title contending team. Yeah the thunder traded your starting power forward but you got a young promising shooting guard (Victor Oladipo) in return. You had Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, Russell...

Dear Parents of Young Football Players, We need to be vigilant in all aspects of our children’s lives, including sports. I had no problem when my eight year old wanted to play football, assuming that our local Junior Peewees would provide him with a gradual introduction to the sport. Was I wrong! The first practice consisted of a warm-up jog around the field followed by full contact drills, during which coaches yelled “Shake it off” at kids who didn’t get up immediately. I witnessed one player bring his fist up under a team-mate’s face guard, which caused the victim’s neck to snap back and sent him to the ground flat on his back. The coaches didn’t seem phased. I was horrified. Because the coaching was unsystematic and disregarded safety I had my son choose an alternative sport. I’m...
