Bernie and Green Party

Dear Bernie,

It is time to start preparing for the likely case that you may not be nominated by the “Democratic” Party during its convention in Philadelphia at the end of July.

Your willingness to give the “Democratic” Party multiple chances to do the right thing is commendable, but it is unlikely to be reciprocated by those in charge of the “Democratic” Party (the Clintons and those who support them).

Many of us in this country agree with you that the American economy and the American political system are rigged to work against the vast majority of people – the working and middle classes. Unfortunately, we are also learning the “Democratic” Party’s nomination process is also rigged against people like you and us, who want such party to represent the working and the middle classes. To make things worse, we cannot change this nomination process before November’s election.

I doubt that you will succeed in changing minds of enough “super-delegates” to get the nomination. Although you are clearly the better candidate for November, it is also clear the “super-delegates” and the rest of those in charge of the current nomination process in the “Democratic” Party are more afraid of the Clintons than they are of loosing the general election!

Those who are against your nomination expect time to run out after the “Democratic” Party’s convention. They think by then it will be too late for you to be in the November ballot.

You have said repeatedly that you are starting a revolution. In your speeches and TV interviews you argue we need millions of Americans standing up and say “enough is enough". We have heard your call and have risen with you. We are willing to work with you on a Second American Revolution seeking to establish a renewed America that offers everyone economic justice; impartial criminal justice; the right to health care; the opportunity for people to receive free post-high-school education that prepares them for productive employment; fair and human immigration policies; and the other goals in your presidential platform.

You must win the November election for this Second American Revolution to succeed.

You cannot launch a revolution and abandon it in July just because the Clintons and those who support them in the “Democratic” Party do not want you to be nominated!

Therefore, we must take actions to ensure you are in the November ballot, with or without the “Democratic” Party’s nomination.

After all, you have always been independent from the “Democratic” Party while you have been in the House and the Senate!

In the event the “Democratic” Party does not nominate you, we must be ready (before the July convention in Philadelphia) for you to accept running as the Green Party’s candidate. Dr. Jill Stein has repeatedly indicated, through social media, that the Green Party is ready to consider working with our revolution to create the Progressive America our children and grandchildren deserve.

Because the Green Party cannot nominate in some states, we will also have to get you approved to run as a WRITE-IN CANDIDATE in those states where the Green Party does not have "ballot access".

During the 2012 presidential election, this strategy, a combination of Green Party nomination and getting approval as a write-in candidate elsewhere put Dr. Stein in the November ballot for forty-four (44) states. Four years ago, Dr. Stein’s supporters failed to gain write-in approval for her in three states (MO, MT, NC), states that allow write-in candidates. We have many more supporters for the revolution you are leading today than Dr. Stein had four years ago. Thus, we should be able to do better. It is reasonable to expect that we could put you in forty-seven (47) states or more for the November 2016 election.

As President Obama said, “change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”.

Moreover, as President Kennedy said, “let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future”.

You know more people are willfully and wholeheartedly with you than with any other candidate. You should also know many of us are willing to work with all our hearts and souls to make you our next president.

Let’s carry the Second American Revolution all the way to the White House!

Respectfully,

Edilberto (Ed) Montemayor
