Fish or Fishing Rod? Democrats or Republicans

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."

This proverb is often attributed to the Bible but most scholars say it is from the Chinese. It is actually a secular proverb about alleviating poverty.

I am going to use this to describe how I see Democrats and Republicans.

As I see it, Democrats want you to line up for a fish everyday so you are dependent on them for how you live everyday. They want to tax everyone over poverty level to death in order to keep all people depending on them for the roof over their heads, healthcare and jobs when we can find them.

On the other hand, Republicans want to hand you a fishing rod and tackle, show you how to fish; allowing you to feed your family. They want the American people to take care of themselves. They want to decrease taxes on everyone over poverty level to promote spending and job increase because there will be money there for businesses to hire more workers. What really happens in a lot of cases, the corporations give more money back to their executives and shareholders while the small businesses try to expand and hire more workers.

Neither system really works as long as those far removed from the real world we live in are in charge. How do politicians expect to compel corporations to hire more people when they are taking handouts from the same companies for favors? It really is a "Pay to Play" system in Washington. Why else would there be a need for lobbyists?

Both groups are so far apart neither is really working. They need to find a happy medium that allows the American people to find work that pays a living wage, gives them a chance to succeed, good healthcare for all, all races get along and most importantly, no one goes to bed hungry and no one is scared where they live.

Also, women are no longer degraded, people with an alternative lifestyle aren't scared to live it and the government of the United States actually work for us instead of for themselves. This would be a perfect world.

Instead, our lives will go back to our normality when the election is over. The politicians will forget about the citizens of the United States. Whoever wins will say, "I inherited these problems" and use that excuse to explain why nothing is getting fixed. The party who loses will not work with the party who wins; again they will argue across the party lines. We will have another four years of no one working together and just see a lot of photo ops of millions of dollars being spent when the President and family go on vacation, along with the Cabinet members go on tours of the world.

Violence will still be happening here. Our tax dollars will still be leaving the country so we can keep footing the bill for our allies and other countries that hate us. We will still have our own citizens going to bed hungry, children being scared everyday because their neighborhoods are dangerous and people having to turn to violent behavior just to bring in money to take care of their families.

Until we, the citizens of the United States, can clean house in the government there will never be a fix. We have given up. As long as the Electoral College stays in place (the politicians like it because it gives them a unfair advantage to winning) we will never have a say in who leads us. They tells our vote counts; you need to get out there and vote. The news stations gloss over the Electoral College when talking about the elections. No one really talks about it. Maybe we should.

I am an Average American and I approve this message.
