Victor Frankenstein was a smart man who focused on his studies in the science field, and because of his mother’s death he came up with the idea of putting human corpses together to create a human. Starting around the 5th chapter Frankenstein figured out how to create another form of life, but afterwards he realizes that it’s not similar to how he pictured it. Regretting what he created Victor became incredibly ill. Returning back to his normal health he realizes that in chapter 16 William Frankenstein is dead, and after speculation Victor realizes that the culprit is his “monster.” Trying to get the monster to stop murdering Victor agrees to create a second monster for the original to create a life with, but after considering the potential consequences with building another monster Victor dishonored his promise. Then in chapter 21 the monster realized Victor wasn’t going to do it, it goes to kill his best friend Henry and later in chapter 23 kills his wife Elizabeth. After Elizabeth’s death Victor hunts the monster down to kill him but fails to do so and instead dies trying.
If we go back to the beginning in chapter 5 you notice that after the creation of the Monster Victor starts to regret everything that he has just done. Regrets it so much that it makes him incredible ill to where he couldn’t even take care of himself. Victors regret is his monster and it basically ruins his life throughout the entire story. But Victor isn’t alone, we all face regret. Though it doesn’t always ruin our lives, we still suffer from it in different ways. I can relate to Victors story of his regret with his monster. Victors monster damaged and destroyed his friendships and with his family leading him to become stressed. My monster is procrastination and it destroyed opportunities in my life such as acceptances and scholarships into high ranking schools. So now realizing the opportunities that I am currently missing out on it makes me sick and regret how decided to go about my high school year.
Regret is universal. Regret can be big, small, and life changing but no matter what we can’t go back to change what happened. Though the experiences that caused regret may not be a good thing, regret itself can be. In some situations, regret is a sign of us taking responsibility for the problems that we’ve caused previously. My regret is my monster that I created within myself with procrastination. During high school I suffered from the “I have time” mentality and it cost me the opportunity to have certain scholarships, awards, and acceptances into high ranking schools. Though my problem with procrastination placed me with a minor setback in high school I still got accepted into great universities and I will still excel in college now because I solved my problem out and I still have time to fix and change my habits for the best me.
Though we face regret and have to suffer the consequences of what we did wrong, we also have to find a way to fix and change ourselves so those things won’t happen again. Regret will always exist but it’s how we learn to deal with regret that shows you who you really are. Regret can either take us down to the grave or bring us up to the top and become successful, complete, and content with ourselves.
Because of the fact that Victor Frankenstein refused to deal with his regret his monster took him and a few of his friends and family down to their graves, but because I will fix and face my regret of my monster procrastination I will do the opposite of Victor Frankenstein and strive to the top.
